THE WORLD OF ADRIATIC/IONIAN MARINE AND COASTAL PROTECTED AREAS HOSTED BY TORRE DEL CERRANO MPA FOR “TOWARDS 2020”.

The sixth AdriaPAN meeting took place on June 2-4 in Pineto-Silvi, organized by Torre del Cerrano Marine Protected Area in the framework of the project PANforAMaR (Protected Areas Network for the Adriatic Macro-Region), thanks to the financial support of the AII – Adriatic & Ionian Initiative and the BluData Project (Abruzzo Region).

 

The workshop was attended by more than 250 managers of marine and coastal Adriatic/Ionian protected areas, by representatives of national and international associations, and by researchers of Universities and National Institutes.

 

The agenda has considered very current themes, such as the following four of the twenty Aichi targets to 2020:
1 –  Establishing an ecological network of MPAs which is representative and interconnected;
2 – Achieving effective, efficient and sustainable management and good MPAs governance in the Mediterranean area;
3 – Developing territorially-integrated governance of Mediterranean MPAs, thus promoting the sharing of environmental and socio-economic benefits;
4 – Increasing the allocation of financial resources in order to establish and maintain an ecological network of effectively managed MPAs.
The opportunity of the meeting was taken also to discuss new project proposals, in order to build partnerships and to receive advices for the next Call for Proposals.
