LOCATION There are two Ornithological reserves on Cres Island: The Northern Reserve (the (area between the Fojiška Bay and the Bay of Pod Predošćica) and The Southern Reserve (the area between the Bay of Mali Bok and the Bay of Koromačna). These reserves have been established on the basis of ornithological research, which created the precondition for the preservation of the largest remaining populations of Griffon vulture in Croatia. Besides the vultures, wide range of protected and endangered species of birds is using the area as nesting habitat. Due to the specific geological history and geography, this area was the home of many European species during the last ice age, which is now the main factor of high biodiversity of the area and excellent environmental preservation.
